Founder

Aye Paing

Aye is a multifaceted professional with a blend of academic and entrepreneurial experience as well as project management expertise. With three degrees across four diverse fields— including a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Botany, a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Science in Biotechnology—she has developed a flexible mindset and a passion for lifelong learning. Currently, she is pursuing a Master’s in Creative Enterprise and Innovation. She studied more technical majors to take a practical approach to life but has an overwhelming passion for art and fashion and how technology might get us in touch with our deeper selves.

In the startup world, Aye founded Raang AR which worked on AR projects. She also worked for Foris Wilde by designing and evaluating New Zealand botanical and pharmaceutical-based luxury spa products. She currently serves as a Senior Project Manager in TTM Transformation at Auckland Transport, where she leads high-profile, public-facing projects. Currently, she is developing a governance-level system that uses GIS and AI to assess the complexity and disruption potential of 40,000 annual roadwork applications. This system provides assessors with AI-driven guidance aligned with nuanced legislative changes, enhancing the evaluation process and understanding of qualitative risk. Much of her work is related to dealing with compliance and regulatory oversight for works that occur on the road reserve. This role has honed her abilities in systems-level change management, stakeholder engagement, and navigating complex regulatory frameworks with a strong awareness of the impact of human factors.

Aye’s vision for Custailo is driven by her desire to create global positive change. Arriving in New Zealand as an 8-year-old refugee from a civil war in Burma, she understands firsthand the challenges of developing countries. This experience has fueled her commitment to using technology and innovation to uplift those on the lower end of the inequality spectrum by providing economic development opportunities.

Custailo envisioned as “the Uber for tailors,” seeks to connect artisans and cultural heritage with a global market, fostering work opportunities for individuals and businesses, especially from developing nations. Combining scientific thinking, a multidisciplinary background, and technical expertise with a deep understanding of global inequality, Aye aims to position Custailo as a venture with both social impact and profitability. By leveraging the skills and time available in the East, Custailo intends to create value through tailored clothing, facilitating economic opportunity across borders.
